Music Therapy Student Association Fall 2026

Duquesne University Who we are: MTSA is the Music Therapy Student Association which consists of Duquesne University’s 18 undergraduate and equivalency Music Therapy students. We plan fundraisers, events, and service projects to promote the Music Therapy department, advocate for Music Therapy, bond with fellow students, and support Duquesne University’s campus and community. Some of the events we host as a club are our annual Benefit Concert which raises money for various charities, our Coffee at Crawford Concert, and tabling for World Music Therapy Week to advocate for Music Therapy. Through MTSA, we aim to further the professional and social development of our members in the Music Therapy field by attending the MAR-AMTA Annual Conference. Why we're Fundraising: The purpose of our crowdfunding campaign is to provide financial assistance for the Duquesne University MTSA members. This support helps us attend the Mid-Atlantic Region of American Music Therapy Association Annual Conference. Your donation will help to offset the costs of the expenses of Conference, such as the conference registration fees, hotel bookings, and transportation costs. Last year, because of funding our organization was able to attend conference free of charge! This opportunity led the now, current seniors to create a connection with Voices Together which is a music therapy internship that “utilizes an evidence-based therapeutic model that research has confirmed enables significant improvement in social/emotional learning, communication, and self-advocacy in children, teens, and adults” in North Carolina. Without our attendance at the Annual MAR-AMTA Conference, Duquesne University would not have a school affiliation with Voices Together and there would not be an opportunity for students to complete their internship after graduation with them. With the ability to attend the MAR-AMTA annual conference, we as a club have the opportunity to better our networking and advocacy skills. Through the attendance of conference, we will be able to give back to the Duquesne University community. Our ever-growing skills and knowledge that we will receive and gain from this opportunity will be shared with our fellow peers to help better their own professional skills. Stay in Touch! Duquesne Supply Chain Council Fall 2026

Duquesne University Who we are: Supply Chain Management is all around us. From the package that just arrived on your doorstep to the boxes of cereal you see on the shelves in the grocery store to the manufacturing of windshield wipers for your car. There is not a day you will live without interacting with some sort of supply chain. Duquesne Supply Chain Council is a student organization made to expose Duquesne students to the systems they interact with every day. By bringing in speakers, hosting tours, and organizing networking events, we want to bring together students who are interested in the background of every product they receive and to encourage them to dive into the world of Supply Chain Management. Why we're fundraising: We are raising funds to enhance the student experience within the Supply Chain Council by supporting initiatives such as factory tours, in-class industry discussions, and large-scale networking events. These experiences allow students to gain hands-on insight into operations and logistics while expanding their professional networks. Your support will also help us provide event incentives and engagement opportunities that encourage more students to get involved and recognize the importance of professional networking in building their careers. The DSCC plays a vital role in career development and community building for Supply Chain Management students. We offer mentorship opportunities, resume and interview workshops, and direct connections with employers who actively recruit Duquesne graduates. Beyond professional growth, our organization fosters a sense of collaboration, leadership, and representation for students interested in the fast-paced world of global supply chain and logistics. Because of funding we were able to bring together over 300 students and over 30 employers with our Direct Connection event. These students built genuine relationships with alumni and others in the industry to learn about internship and job offers and the skills required to be in Supply Chain Management. Because DSCC is open to all, students from all over Duquesne’s Campus have been able to learn a bit more about their desired industry. Marketing majors with a sales focus have been able to learn a little more about what they are selling. Data Science majors have learned about the industries they are programming a system for. Filipino-American Student Association Fall 2026

Duquesne University Who we are: The Filipino-American Student Association (FASA) at Duquesne University was founded in 2018 to create a welcoming and supportive community for Filipino-American students while sharing the richness of Filipino culture with the broader campus community. We aim to celebrate Filipino heritage through exciting events, educational programs, and community outreach that highlight our traditions, customs, and culinary legacy. By doing so, FASA fosters a strong sense of identity, unity, and pride among Filipino-American students while promoting cultural awareness throughout the Duquesne community. Why we're fundraising: Keeping in line with our mission to enrich the Duquesne community with our culture, FASA is actively seeking funding to support the procuration of necessary materials, such as bamboo sticks for tinikling and filipino snacks for each subsequent events. The contribution provided will defray the expenses associated with the acquisition of props and equipment, enabling FASA to sustain its efforts in disseminating the richness and variety of Filipino culture to the Duquesne University community. One “Spirit” moment that captures the heart of the Filipino American Student Association (FASA) is when we come together to celebrate our Filipino heritage through food, music, and fellowship while creating a welcoming space for all students. Whether we are sharing traditional Filipino dishes during our Boodle and Karaoke Night, fundraising to support students in the Philippines, or simply gathering for a general body meeting, each event reminds us that FASA is more than a cultural organization. We are a community that connects students to their roots, builds lifelong friendships, and serves others. FASA enhances student life by creating a lively community that celebrates Filipino culture, values, and traditions. We share every facet of our culture with signature Filipino friendliness. Our club aims to create leadership opportunities while encouraging collaboration. Through our events, we provide a supportive space where members can build friendships, develop confidence, and find a sense of belonging. It gives Filipino students an outlet to express their pride for being Filipino. Even for students who aren’t Filipino, they’re able to learn about the beautiful culture of the Philippines. National Association for Music Education Fall 2026

Duquesne University Who we are Duquesne University’s National Association for Music Education Chapter #159 (NAfME) is a collegiate organization for music education majors at the Mary Pappert School of Music. The organization offers professional development opportunities throughout the year for students, including workshops, professional speaker presentations, with the main opportunity being the annual Pennsylvania Music Education Association (PMEA) Conference. Chapter membership is required for all Music Education students and provides experiences for professional development as well as chances to network with other music educators. NAfME is one of the most engaging clubs at Duquesne University by supporting the students in various ways through coming together for both academic and professional development. It allows students to connect with others and enhance their network within the music education community Every year, our NAfME chapter kicks off the year by having a BBQ at a local park! This is a tradition that has been tried and true for years before any of us were in the program, and we always have so much fun reconnecting with each other after summer and meeting all the new faces! Next, we have our Professional Development Day where members enhance their educational experience by getting to put what they are learning in class into real life scenarios. We then move onto our Mary Pappert School of Music Gala, open to all majors and minors in the music school! We close out our year with the PMEA Conference. In between these main events we also have many other events for our members. Why we need your help! We are raising money to send our chapter members to the PMEA State Conference. Last year, our organization was fortunate enough to send 30 students to the PMEA Conference. With the help of our Crowdfunding campaign, we were able to keep the individual cost under $100. We hope to continue these efforts this year and send 40 members to the conference, keeping the cost affordable. Your donations would go directly towards conference registration and hotel accommodations! Every year our members share that their favorite event is getting to go off campus to the PMEA Conference and meet music educators from across the state. Club Softball Fall 2026

Duquesne University Who we are The Club Softball team at Duquesne University is a student-led organization that aims to create a fun community of girls that come together to play what is beyond a softball game. To build and bridge communities and relationships, to create a positive outlet, and establish teamwork and resilience. It intends to be a space that feels like adolescence and home, one of no pressure and all excitement. Club softball at Duquesne University is a direct output of a commitment to excellence by fostering a diverse space and community. Duquesne Club softball will always aim to serve God by serving others, in this sense community, when playing in the sense of respect and diversifying one's mind as we travel and play teams who may look like us or not. This automatically creates a space where girls of different age, stature, and experience can be seen in the same light to leave us all being better rounded individuals who can have wider spectrums to serve in our daily lives. Without knowing we provide mentorship through girls making connections from all walks of the college life as we support each other in the same or different majors. Why we need your help! As of right now, we are raising money to pay for dues for the NCAA. This will mean that our club softball team would then be an official club team and able to travel to games and play in a conference with other teams. This would allow Duquesne as a school to extend their reach and their students to other universities through the love of softball while directly helping students engage in connecting all around the world and developing stronger personal connections in school. If we do not raise the dues, this money will help us welcome new girls on by paying for their dues but also giving us a little more time to fundraise and make the money we need! Every semester we meet new students who want to join and didn't know we had a team, they are so shocked to find out that we do, and that we are the people who actually started it. Over this past summer I seen a girl who looked to be a freshman throwing a softball with her mom, I decided to go up to her and tell her about our team. She mentioned she was actually going here in the Fall and played softball in high school. That Duquesne was her dream school, but she thought she'd have to give up softball. After the conversation, her and her mom hugged me and thanked me for making Duquesne the perfect home for her; she now plays on our team! Get connected! American Chemical Society

Duquesne University Who we are: We are the American Chemical Society Student Affiliates, an organization recognized by the national governing body of the American Chemical Society. We are an organization that hosts students from a variety of backgrounds and majors; anyone who is interested in chemistry can be a member of our club, even if they’re not in a STEM field! We foster a love and appreciation for chemistry, do science demos, career development, fun community building events, and foster personal relationships between people who have an interest in STEM. Why we're fundraising: We are raising money to help cover the costs of ACS Student Memberships for each of our members. Having a membership provides access to thousands of research articles, scholarship opportunities, as well as discounted tickets to ACS-hosted conferences across the nation. Additionally, we are hoping to raise money to send out research-active juniors to the ACS National Conference taking place in New Orleans in the spring! The money raised from this project will help us cover the costs of airfare, hotel, and food for our members attending. With last year’s funding we were able to send 9 students to the national conference in Atlanta. While students were there they were able to participate in networking with other young scientists, meet potential graduate schools and companies, and present their research in front of a national audience. This experience is typically our student’s first national conference, giving them a taste of what their professional years have in store for them. ACS at Duquesne helps to bridge the gap between science and fun! We host numerous events that have a science focus while still being an engaging, community-building activity. For example, we host a Corn-“mole” tournament on Mole Day, and lab coat tie dye events. In terms of professional development, we have multiple meetings dedicated to providing advice and information on getting started in research, building your own resume/CV, and applying for internal and external internships and pos graduate opportunities. We also host a yearly research symposium for which we invite multiple colleges in the region, providing an opportunity for students to hear from and present to their peers and invited experts, culminating in a post presentation competition. National Band Association Fall 2026

Duquesne University Who we are The Duquesne University National Band Association student chapter is dedicated to serving Duquesne and the greater Pittsburgh area by providing members with meaningful opportunities within the field of music education, specifically through instrumental music experiences. Members interact with students, strengthen pedagogical strategy and fluency, and plan experiences that aim to inform and support future teaching while benefiting instrumental students of all ages. The National Band Association student chapter is here to work towards building a community by uplifting and supporting everyone. We work to develop our teaching through workshops, and networking events. Our organization is here to offer future educators with experiences that will help in their life once they graduate from Duquesne. Additionally, the National Band Association has the privilege of hosting a Concert Band Festival every January since 2025. Our most recent festival was an overwhelming success. Three local high schools spent the day on campus working with world class conductors and music educators. Collegiate members volunteered to organize the event, accompany students around campus, and had the opportunity to play alongside high schoolers in a group performance at the end of the day. The community outreach that we achieved and the impact we had on those students, and our members truly represent the National Band Association’s commitment to enhancing music education in our community at Duquesne University. Why we need your help The National Band Association at Duquesne is fundraising for our trip to the Midwest Clinic in Chicago. At this conference, future music educators have the chance to gain insight into music education at the international level and network with other educators. The Mid-West conference hosts workshops where clinicians present on educating and working with students. Finally, Conference goers will get the chance to see performances from ensembles around the nation. Donations help to cover the cost of housing, travel, and registration for the eleven individuals representing the National Band Association chapter at Duquesne University. Last year because of crowdfunding, we were able to send ten students to the Midwest Conference. They encountered internationally known composers and sat in excellent sessions on jazz, concert band, and beginning band methods. This conference served as professional development, which allowed attendees to build valuable connections to other educators and gain musical knowledge that they were able to bring back to Duquesne. Undergraduate Mock Trial Fall 2026

Duquesne University Who we are Duquesne University Undergraduate Mock Trial is a student-led organization that gives students from all majors the opportunity to experience to compete in role-playing and real writing processes surrounding legal processes. Students develop skills in advocacy, public speaking, critical thinking, and teamwork. As an active part of the Duquesne community, we represent the university at collegiate Mock Trial competitions and create opportunities for students to engage with the legal profession both inside and outside the courtroom. Our mission is to foster a supportive and competitive environment where students are challenged, can grow as advocates and leaders, and develop skills that extend beyond competition, into whatever careers they pursue. Mock Trial at Duquesne is really a family. It enhances student life by providing a welcoming, collaborative community to students; one centered around a shared interest in advocacy, competition, and the legal field. Members build meaningful friendships while practicing, competing, traveling, and representing Duquesne University. The organization gives students a sense of belonging outside the classroom and creates opportunities for students from all backgrounds to connect and work towards a common goal. Through Mock Trial, members develop valuable professional skills, gain hands-on experience, and learn how to speak public and do so under pressure. The organization is open to all students with any varying level of experience, allowing new members to learn and grow alongside returning competitors while providing opportunities to take on leadership roles. Why we need your help Throughout the fall and spring semesters, our organization sends over 40 students to different competitions in cities like D.C., Baltimore, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland, State College, and right here in Pittsburgh. These tournaments, the travel fees, and the American Mock Trial Association fees cost the club several thousand dollars each year, and we don’t ask our members to pay for this themselves. Securing funding now will allow us to continue to send students to fall tournaments and give us the resources we need to advance to Regionals, the Open Round Championship Series (ORCS), and Nationals in the spring. Since Regionals, ORCS, and Nationals are all travel competition, funding is extremely important and greatly appreciated. Last year, because of funding we received, we were able to send a record number of new students to tournaments, tripling our organization’s previous numbers and giving students across almost every school of study a chance to compete. This year, we’ve already doubled our numbers from last year, and continued funding will allow us to send all new and returning members to a tournament for a chance to compete, represent Duquesne, and grow their skills. Duquesne University Who we are: The National Society of Black Engineering and STEM Students (NSBE) chapter at Duquesne University is a student-led organization dedicated to supporting and empowering students in engineering and other STEM fields. Our chapter’s mission is to increase the representation and success of Black students in STEM while providing opportunities for leadership, professional growth, and community engagement. On campus, we play an active role in creating a supportive community where students can connect, collaborate, and thrive. We provide mentorship, academic guidance, and peer support to help members succeed in their classes, research, and future careers. Through workshops, panels, and networking events, we connect students with industry professionals and alumni, giving them opportunities to explore career paths and gain practical skills. Why We're Fundraising: We are raising funds to help our NSBE members attend both the National and Regional Conventions, as well as to support educational and networking events on campus throughout the year. These conventions offer workshops, career fairs, panels, and opportunities to network with leading companies and STEM professionals. Attending these events allows our members to develop leadership skills, learn about cutting-edge innovations, and explore career opportunities they might not otherwise have access to. In addition to convention travel, the funds will support our chapter’s campus programs, including workshops, guest speaker sessions, and networking events. These programs allow students to gain hands-on experience, develop professional skills, and share knowledge with their peers. NSBE enhances student life by creating a welcoming and supportive community for students pursuing STEM degrees. Our chapter promotes mentorship, leadership, and professional development, giving students opportunities to gain skills that will help them in their careers. We organize events that encourage collaboration, problem-solving, and peer-to-peer learning, helping students grow both academically and professionally. By attending conventions and hosting campus events, members bring back knowledge, resources, and inspiration to share with others. One moment that truly captures the spirit of our chapter is NSBE Week, which we host each year on campus. During this week, we organize a variety of events, from a fun and active Field Day to professional panels and workshops, that bring together students from all years and majors. Girls, INC.

Duquesne University Who we are: Girls Inc was originally strong women, strong girls but even though the name has changed we are still the same organization. Our chapter at Duquesne University is a part of a larger nonprofit organization focused on implementing multi- generational mentoring to empower woman and girls. Our goal as an organization is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. To do this we have college women in our chapter meet with elementary and middle school girls to part take in an after-school mentoring program. I personally witnessed the impact that Girls Inc has on our community specifically on the young girls that are a part of the after-school program. This program not only allows young girls in the community to gain mentors that they will remember for the rest of their lives but also allows members of our organization to create lasting friendships and meet inspiring woman. Why we're Fundraising: Our main fundraising is to support our annual field trip, a special day that gives the girls we mentor the opportunity to visit our campus, explore the college, and learn more about the school their mentors attend. Each year field trip is centered around a unique theme, and we put a great deal of time and effort into decorating classrooms and creating a memorable experience for the girls. Funds raised help cover essential things like transportation to and from campus, themed decorations, and activities, prizes for our field trip prize wheel, and lunch in the dining hall. Which the lunch is one of the girls’ favorite parts of the day. By raising these funds we are investing in a day that celebrates the girls, encourages their curiosity, and inspires them to see themselves as future college students and leaders. Last year because of funding we were able to continue our annual field trip to Duquesne, an experience that makes a large impact on the girls that we mentor through our organization. During this day, the girls get to explore the campus, participate in games and crafts hosted by local clubs, and enjoy a meal in the dining hall, which is always one of their favorite parts. The impact field trip has on the girls goes beyond a fun day exploring the campus. From experience, I have seen how this field trip inspires the girls and helps them envision a future where they are attending college. Many of them talk about wanting to be a student at Duquesne one day and they see themselves following in the footsteps of their mentors. Being able to provide the girls with this opportunity allows them to really see what is possible for their futures. The funding we receive allows us to make this experience possible and continue to encourage the mentees to dream big. Our organization makes a positive impact on campus by encouraging community and helping members with professional growth. We encourage our members to attend our Nite Spot events, where we organize activities that allow everyone to meet new people and build connections. Some of our previous events have included painting pots, candle painting, and a bingo night. Through these events, we hope to create an environment where members get to know girls throughout the entire organization rather than only those within their own site groups. Additionally, the Girls Inc mentoring program provides opportunities for professional growth and mentorship. Members, throughout the academic year, can connect with successful women who work in the fields they are interested in pursuing. These mentors offer guidance, share their experiences, and provide valuable advice on how to navigate their future careers. Gamma Sigma Sigma Fall 2026

Duquesne University Who we are: Gamma Sigma Sigma is a national service sorority founded by six organizations: Alpha Gamma Chi, Booster Squad of Brooklyn College, Gamma Sigma Sigma, Omega Service Sorority, Phi Gamma, and the Women’s Service Organization. We are committed to creating and engaging in opportunities to help the community with their needs. Our goal is for our members to exhibit a lifetime commitment to leadership and service. Our motto is “Unity in Service,” achieved by contributing hundreds of hours to unlimited projects. Our current service partners include Alex’s Lemonade Stand, March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, etc. Gamma Sigma Sigma provides Duquesne students with the opportunity to participate in service projects and make a meaningful impact on our community. We organize various fundraisers and events to support the organizations we partner with. Expanding our membership would enhance our ability to make greater difference both on campus and in the broader Pittsburgh community! Why we're Fundraising: Gamma Sigma Sigma is working hard to raise our funds so we can expand our service efforts and give back even more to the community! Every donation and fundraiser helps us purchase supplies, support local organizations, and organize new projects that make a real difference. By reaching our fundraising goals, we’ll be able to take on more meaningful service opportunities, from volunteering events and donation drives, and continue strengthening our mission of unity, service, and compassion. One recent moment that truly reflected the spirit of Gamma Sigma Sigma was this past Autumn Fest, where our chapter came together to host a raffle basket fundraiser. It was through teamwork, creativity, and dedication that we raised over $100! It was wonderful to see how it all worked together with everyone's contributions, with the knowledge that every ticket sold was going to go towards meaningful causes. With the funds we have raised, we were able to give back to the American Society for Suicide Prevention and the American Cancer Society, taking our service off campus and into the community. This accomplishment not only showed our commitment to service, but it also made us feel more together and united in our mission towards our community. The Gamma Delta Chapter enhances student life at Duquesne by cultivating an inclusive space grounded in service, friendship, and personal growth. We empower students to develop key leadership and professional skills, such as project coordination, community outreach, and teamwork while fostering strong bonds of mentorship among our sisters. Lexicon Fall 2026

Duquesne University Who we are: :Lexicon is the arts and literary journal of Duquesne, publishing one journal every semester. Our journals showcase student, faculty, and alumni creative works such as fiction, drama, poetry, art, and photography. Every month on our social media we spotlight an individual whose work was handpicked by our editors to highlight their talent. We also host events such as our annual art in the spring and Blind Date with a Book during both fall and spring semesters. Why we need your help! Donations will go toward the publication of our arts and literary journal and allow us to publish longer journals with more of the talented Duquesne community’s creative works. Donations will also support the continuation of our annual art show for the Duquesne community to attend. Something that demonstrates the need for publishing longer journals and organizing events for community engagement is our annual spring art show. This event was one of our most popular events almost from the beginning of :Lexicon, but there were five years when the event didn’t happen. Because of crowdfunding and interest within the Duquesne community, we have been able to bring the art show back for two years now. We are hoping to continue this tradition in Spring 2027 as a two-day event showcasing art, photography, crochet, sculptures, fiction, poetry, and more. We received an abundance of support and interest from faculty and students during our previous art shows, especially this past Spring 2026. For the first time, we had two crochet dress pieces on display alongside paintings, sketches, photography, and poetry. There was a huge turnout for the fiction and poetry reading at the end of the second day of the event, so much so that a few people stood in the hall to listen because the room was full. Mic Drop Fall 2026

Duquesne University Who we are Mic Drop A Cappella is Duquesne’s first and only competitive all-gender a cappella group. We are currently a group of 16 members from a variety of majors and concentrations. Mic Drop is proudly self-directed with all our arrangements being written by our talented members. We love performing shows on campus for our friends, family, and the Duquesne community, as well as traveling off campus to perform around our community. This year we are also strengthening our group to prepare to return to competition in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella circuit next school year. Most of all – we enjoy spreading our love for music and performing! Mic Drop A Cappella provides an opportunity for any student to share their love of music with the entire Duquesne community. Between our semesterly concerts on campus, performing at events such as Night of Lights, and our outstanding annual invitational Beats on the Bluff, we love to get out there and sing! We welcome and invite all students, staff, and community members to come out to our performances, with the hope of bringing a little joy to our campus through our love of music! What are we fundraising for? We are raising money to help support our members as we prepare to record and release our 4th EP this year and return to competition next year. This would include paying for professional recordings of our setlist, as well as help cover audition fees for the ICCAs early next fall, as well as other miscellaneous expenses as the year goes on. With the help of funding last year, Mic Drop was not only able to travel to Penn State University to compete in February, but we also had the opportunity to record our competition set, along with a few group favorites across the year, and released those just a couple weeks ago to all streaming platforms. It was a busy and productive year – and without the help of donors and our incredibly hardworking group – none of it would’ve been possible! Stay Connected! Nursing and Pharmacy Global Health Immersion in Roatán Fall 2026

Duquesne University Who we are: A group of 12 nursing students will be participating in a Global Health Immersion in Roatán, Honduras during Spring Break (February 27th – March 6th, 2027). Led by faculty members, we will work with to provide healthcare to people on the island at Clinica Esperanza and in the surrounding communities. Why we're fundraising: Our annual Spring Breakaway to Roatán is much more than a trip. It is an opportunity for students to learn, serve, and experience healthcare from a new perspective. Working alongside the dedicated staff at Clínica Esperanza, our students help provide direct patient care and participate in outreach and health education in neighboring communities. The clinic serves more than 140 patients each day and welcomes patients regardless of their ability to pay. We are raising funds to help reduce the out-of-pocket costs of participating, especially the cost of airfare. By donating, you are helping remove a financial barrier that can prevent students from taking part in this life-changing experience. Your generosity gives students the opportunity to strengthen their clinical skills, build confidence as future healthcare professionals, and gain a broader understanding of health, healthcare access, and the communities they will one day serve. We are so grateful for the relationship that we have built with Clinica Esperanza. The staff at the clinic are so welcoming and excited to teach our students every year. Last year, we brought Duquesne SON tee shirts for the staff – on the last day, the students and faculty had their Clinica Esperanza shirts on and the Clinic staff all had their DUSON shirts on! It was such a special moment and something that we were happy to be able to provide. The cultural experiences are so much fun! Every year, we attend mass on Sunday. We also do a sunset snorkel to enjoy the natural beauty of the island and the reef - it is a wonderful way to end the week! Nursing students join a global health immersion in the Bay Islands, Roatán, where they work alongside local partners to address community healthcare needs. During Spring Break, students contribute their time, energy, and resources in support of clinic-based and community-focused initiatives. They partner with promotoras who help connect healthcare efforts with neighborhood priorities and assist with community education programs. Students also have opportunities to strengthen their Spanish skills, learn about local culture, and experience life within the community. More than a service trip, this experience encourages students to learn from the people they serve. It provides opportunities to apply nursing knowledge, develop clinical and communication skills, and grow personally and professionally. As they build confidence as future healthcare professionals, they also gain a broader perspective on health, healthcare access, and the communities they serve. Students return to Duquesne with new skills, lasting connections, and a deeper understanding of global health. Through these experiences, they develop a broader worldview and a deeper appreciation for the importance of compassionate, culturally responsive care. Best Buddies Fall 2026

Duquesne University Who we are Best Buddies is an organization that builds friendships and community for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The organization is dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people worldwide with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Duquesne Best Buddies typically meets twice a month for 2 hours each. We host events on and off campus that allow individuals with IDD to build connections with Duquesne students and give them an opportunity to find community within our campus. A tradition that Duquesne Best Buddies does every year is our Spread the Word event. This tradition brings our whole organization together to support our main cause which is to end discrimination against individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Last year we were able promote our event and gain attendees outside of our organization members. This allowed us to advocate more for the population with intellectual and developmental disabilities and spread more awareness. Why we need your help We are raising money for our events that we hold throughout the year. We like to plan at least one off-campus event each semester and these tend to cost more than our on-campus events. We enjoy renting out 4 lanes at Pins in the spring. These funds would support our ability to pay for all members to attend and have unlimited drinks. The event that most of our funds go to is our event called Spread the Word. This event is our biggest outreach event that we hold every Spring. It is an event to advocate for inclusivity and to stop the degrading slurs that are directed at individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We make raffle baskets, invite other organizations to participate, and also provide a buffet of food for all attendees. These funds would go to increasing our promotion of the event and including more activities at this event. Sigma Tau Delta Fall 2026

Duquesne University Who we are Sigma Tau Delta is the International Honors Society for the study of English language and literature. Established in 1924, it is one of the oldest and largest collegiate honors societies. Sigma Tau Delta promotes and supports literature and the literary arts, a love of books, storytelling, poetry, performing arts, and literacy in the broadest sense. Its service projects reflect and employ the skills and knowledge that the discipline cultivates. Sigma Tau Delta offers opportunities for students to present their creative and scholarly work in literary studies at campus symposiums, publish their work in the globally circulated undergraduate journals The Review (scholarship) and The Rectangle (creative writing), volunteer opportunities to work with English-language learners on and off campus, and material support for attending conferences and conventions that celebrate literature, literary studies, and creative writing. Sigma Tau Delta’s Pi Delta chapter was first established at Duquesne University in 1939 and it actively works to promote and celebrate a love for books, for storytelling, for poetry, and for language and lingual arts—something that we see as doubly important in an age in which large sections of society are turning to social media and/or AI for the narratives they consume. Not only does Sigma Tau Delta provides a forum for Duquesne students to meet, share their work, and network with others who value the printed page and the lingual arts, as well as the intellectual and professional doors this work opens. We organize book drives, events, and serve the ESL/ELL community on campus. Sigma Tau Delta speaks to Duquesne’s Spiritan mission of service on and off campus, empathy, conscientious engagement with the cultures and peoples of the world, and intellectual rigor as a means to enhance the heart and the soul. Why we need your help We are raising money so that our chapter members can attend the annual Sigma Tau Delta convention in Milwaukee WI in March 2027.
