Duquesne Rugby Spring 2025

Duquesne Club Rugby is an officially recognized club sport at Duquesne University. Our organization is dedicated to teaching and promoting the great tradition and game of rugby at the college level while also promoting personal wellbeing. We practice twice a week and have conditioning once a week. We compete in around four tournaments a semester with various scrimmages and single matches in between.

Most of these tournaments are NCR (National Collegiate Rugby) sanctioned and run by the ARU (Allegheny Rugby union). We currently have a roster of 21 Duquesne students and are constantly looking to bring more players onto the team. No experience is needed to join the team. In fact, only five of our players had prior rugby experience before joining the team. Despite our inexperience we were able to place 3rd and 2nd in our first two tournaments. This is thanks to our excellent coaching staff. Our head coach Tyler Miller is president and captain of the Pittsburgh Harlequins. He has been an excellent mentor and guiding light for our program and is great to work with.

Despite having an incredible roster of energetic and eager players alongside a devoted and dedicated coaching staff, we have always struggled to come up with the funding for our team.

Rugby is an excellent sport with lots of tradition and history behind it. It has been promoting youth along with older generations to stay active for centuries.  It can help Duquesne students by...

  • Developing life-long friendships with players of diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Rugby is a physically intensive sport that promotes cardiovascular and muscular health
  • Rugby is a very disciplined sport that demands a certain level of discipline and mental fortitude of players
  • Rugby is a sport that can be enjoyed life-long, whether it be on the field or in the stands

Why we need your help!

Any amount of money is pivotal to our organization. While Rugby is not as expensive as other sports, it still requires a decent amount of money. We try and charge our players the bare minimum for dues, but even then, the president has had to put personal money into the organization to cover certain fees. Your donation would cover:

  • Player registration fees for NCR ($110 per player)
  • Uniform costs ($70 per person)
  • Practice equipment (Tackling pads, cones, balls, pinnies, & warm-ups)
  • Compensating our coaching staff
  • Covering travel costs to our away games
  • Tournament entry fees (for away games) & trainer fees (for home games)
