Introducing Duquesne University's Mic Drop A Cappella

Hi, my name is Blake Mechtel, a junior Music Education major at Duquesne University and the President, Head Music Director and Founder of Mic Drop A Cappella. I founded this student organization in December 2016 so that Duquesne University students like me could have the opportunity to come together and practice, perform and share this wonderful form of music on campus and throughout Pittsburgh. Now in our first full-year, we have 17 student-singers of various majors who arrange and perform music from all genres.

What we want do to...

We are excited to become more active on campus and in the community but need funding to make our plans happen. This year we hope to:

Represent Duquesne University at the International Competition of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA's), which is a competition against over 400 selected groups from the United States and United Kingdom (check out our audition video, click here!).
Host an annual Christmas and Spring Concert
Perform around the city to spread our love of music and bring joy to the community
Host other a cappella groups in the city on our campus to grow our a cappella community
Use music to raise money for causes and other service organizations in the community

Why we need you to make a gift to our organization...

All of these events are extremely exciting, but cost money. Donations will be used to help offset the cost for us to:

ICCA audition fees
Transportation to and from our competitions
Enhance our concerts by being able to make programs, pay someone to run lights, decorate the venue, etc.
Even smaller donations will allow us to pay for items like sheet music, which is actually created by students in the group, but the software we use software to create our beautiful harmonies is costly

Words can't convey how much I love music, nor can I speak for the other 10 members in Mic Drop. Because, the love we have for music is a feeling, an entity, and ultimately a sound. We go beyond the sheet music and we dive into the raw emotion and feeling of each and every song that we learn and perform. Our job is to tap into peoples emotions and let them feel happiness, excitement, thrill, joy, sadness and sorrow. We want to show people that A Cappella music is a very intimate experience and we want to represent Duquesne University to show others what we can do and what we stand for. Funds we receive we will give you music that can never be forgotten.
