Our Crowdfunding Groups
Who are we?
We are seven Duquesne University students and a Spiritan Campus Minister who are eagerly awaiting our trip to serve two communities and grow in our university’s mission to serve God by serving others. We are thankful for the opportunity to return to places like Baltimore, MD and Dayton, OH to support the communities in any way necessary while also coming to understand their culture and diversity.
When and where are we going?
We will be traveling over our Spring Break (March 2-10). We will first pack our bags and load our vans to travel to Baltimore, MD where we will work with St. Edward’s Parish to renovate and repair their parish buildings. While there, our group will collaborate in painting and moving furniture, but we will also come to understand their parish community, who have overcome great obstacles of poverty in the Baltimore area.
On Wednesday, March 6, we will pack up from Baltimore and take an eight hour journey, accompanied by lots of carpool karaoke, to Dayton, OH where we will assist at St. Benedict the Moor Parish and Catholic School. Because the Diocese of Dayton recently withdrew funds for St. Benedict the Moor, the parish has been dedicated to keeping the school open and ensuring all students in the community have access to education. Dayton has also been a city known for its urban decline and de-industrailization.
How can you help?
All monies raised through our crowdfunding campaign will be donated to both parishes we visit in different ways. Some of the funds will be given to St. Edward’s in Baltimore to assist in paying for building repairs (paint and new furniture).
Over the past few years in Dayton, we have used our funds to purchase a new piece of playground equipment for the children, but we also use the money to purchase games and other school supplies. Our goal is to raise enough funds to purchase the equipment for the school in Dayton and the new supplies for the parish in Baltimore. We thank you in advance for anything you can contribute!
