Team Human Science: Help Psychology Students Study Abroad

WHO WE ARE

We are faculty and staff from the Duquesne University Psychology Department who want to raise funds that support our psychology students. To raise awareness for this crowdfunding campaign we have formed Team Human Science, which consists of five members from our department who will run as a relay team in the Pittsburgh Marathon on Sunday, May 7!

WHY WE ARE CROWDFUNDING

We want to raise money to provide financial assistance to undergraduate students who would like to attend one of the Spring Breakaway or Study Abroad courses offered in our Department.

Over the years, we have been frustrated by the fact that some of our brightest and most committed students cannot afford to take advantage of these courses. And, inasmuch as lifelong friendships and deep social learning take place, we would also like our trips to be much more diverse than they sometimes are, such that friendships happen precisely across ethnic, racial, and class boundaries for example.

WHY SPRING BREAKAWAY AND STUDY ABROAD IS SO IMPORTANT

Spring Breakaway and Study Abroad programs provide unique opportunities for learning, and life changing experiences. Some of our Breakaway courses include:

• Science, Psychology, and the Holocaust: where students visit Vienna (Freud’s home is on the itinerary, of course) and Krakow (Auschwitz-Birkenau being the somber and sobering destination)
• Science and Faith: where students visit Rome and Geneva, and where the search for the “God particle” at the Hadron collider challenges students to a uniquely experiential struggle with the very title of the course
• An upcoming breakaway to London
• Plus, future summer offerings that will take students to Tanzania, South Africa and Namibia

WHAT YOUR DONATION SUPPORTS

Your donation is a tax-deductible gift to Duquesne University that will directly benefit our students. These donations will help defray the costs for students to study abroad by paying for expensive fees, such as: educational materials, food, transportation and hotel accommodations.

Team Human Science is training hard for our relay in the Pittsburgh Marathon on Sunday, May 7. Each run leading up to the big day is dedicated to our wonderful students and our hope to give many of them this travel abroad experience that will make their time at Duquesne even more special.
