Who we are
The Duquesne Trumpet Studio is a student organization that strives to expand our musical and professional knowledge by attending conferences and bringing in world-class trumpet players to give masterclasses. Our trumpet ensemble provides its members an opportunity to engage in chamber music playing, which is an essential skill in the professional world.
Playing in an ensemble with people builds community unlike anything else. The extreme collaborative nature of being in a chamber group like trumpet ensemble makes us become great friends naturally. Our relationships we build during rehearsals will last long into our professional careers. Also, the older and more experienced students provide great mentorship to the younger students when they have questions, or a learning opportunity occurs. Sometimes, the more experienced students even learn something from the younger students.
Why we need your help!
We are raising money to go to the National Trumpet Competition (NTC) in Houston Texas from March 18-21. This event holds competitions for trumpet ensembles, jazz, solos, and trumpet excerpts. There are seminars and guest artists that will be performing as well. NTC provides the opportunity to network and build valuable musical knowledge. It is important to secure as much funding as possible right now because flights and hotels can be very expensive. We are trying to go to this competition with the least friction possible for our members. Your support will help us achieve this goal.
Two years ago, we attended the same conference, and the funding we got was crucial to getting us there. Our treasurer, Justin, said his favorite memory from NTC was getting the opportunity to sit in a masterclass with the Dallas trumpet section. They performed section excerpts for us, and the sound and precision they played with was inspiring to him as a trumpet player.
