Best Buddies Fall 2026

Who we are

Best Buddies is an organization that builds friendships and community for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The organization is dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people worldwide with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Duquesne Best Buddies typically meets twice a month for 2 hours each. We host events on and off campus that allow individuals with IDD to build connections with Duquesne students and give them an opportunity to find community within our campus. 

A tradition that Duquesne Best Buddies does every year is our Spread the Word event. This tradition brings our whole organization together to support our main cause which is to end discrimination against individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Last year we were able promote our event and gain attendees outside of our organization members. This allowed us to advocate more for the population with intellectual and developmental disabilities and spread more awareness.

Why we need your help

We are raising money for our events that we hold throughout the year. We like to plan at least one off-campus event each semester and these tend to cost more than our on-campus events. We enjoy renting out 4 lanes at Pins in the spring. These funds would support our ability to pay for all members to attend and have unlimited drinks. The event that most of our funds go to is our event called Spread the Word. This event is our biggest outreach event that we hold every Spring. It is an event to advocate for inclusivity and to stop the degrading slurs that are directed at individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We make raffle baskets, invite other organizations to participate, and also provide a buffet of food for all attendees. These funds would go to increasing our promotion of the event and including more activities at this event. It is critical to secure this funding so that we are able to begin planning our big events with a budget in mind.
