Society of Women Engineers
The mission of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is to empower women to achieve full potential in future careers as engineers and leaders, expand the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of life, and demonstrate the value of diversity and inclusion. SWE plays a huge role in fostering a supportive and welcoming community for the growing engineering department at Duquesne University. We host a mixture of social events for taking a break from the stressful school day as well as professional events to support members in their preparation for career after college.
Donations to the Society of Women Engineers crowdfunding campaign will support a Duquesne engineering group in attending the national SWE conference (WE26) in Boston Massachusetts this fall. Attending this conference will allow SWE members to develop professionally, network, and find employment after graduation. The job fair at the national conference is notorious for being a great opportunity to find jobs with hundreds of companies present (our current treasurer received a job offer through this conference!). The informative sessions will allow members who attend the conference to develop new engineering skills that they can bring back with them and apply throughout their career. Any donations will go towards registration fees, flights, and hotel costs.
The Society of Women Engineers enhances student life at Duquesne by providing a supportive environment for the growing engineering department. Our club provides a welcome break from homework and exam stress, an opportunity to bond with classmates, find mentors within the engineering field, and develop professionally to be prepared for the transition from college to career.
Attending the 2025 National SWE Conference this past fall was an incredible opportunity that not only advanced our careers but served as an amazing memory for the group that was able to attend. We got the chance to meet new people in the engineering field that taught us many lessons, as well as other collegiates that helped us to find new ideas for our collegiate section! In the evenings we got the chance to get closer to our classmates by exploring a new city.
