Houston Texas Spiritan Mission Experience 2026

Who we are

We are a group of 12 Duquesne University students traveling to Houston, Texas. We are a part of Spiritan Campus Ministry and aim to work with those in the margins. Houston is home to some of our beloved Spiritans’ mission work. Houston, Texas has been one of the main hubs for the Spiritans of the western province prior to its unification with the Eastern province in 2009. Some of their life-giving ministries in the Archdiocese include University work, campus and young adult ministry, parish ministry, prison ministry, and seminary formation/vocations. We will be spending our spring break working with the Spiritan Organizations already in place to help out where we are needed. 

Our organization helps enrich student life at Duquesne by providing students with the opportunity to work with the Spiritan Church in a new area to work with those in the margins. Meeting with the Spiritan Office of Mission Advancement also gives students the opportunity to consider future work with Spiritan Parishes. 

Why we need your help

We will be working with a local Spiritan parish, school, and youth group during our time in Houston. Throughout the week the group will also collaborate with the Spiritan Office for Mission Advancement, the Rice University Catholic Center campus ministry, and the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. 

 We have worked with a Spiritan School in the past and have gotten the chance to do activities with the students there as well as play with them during their recess period. It was great to work with kids in a new environment and be able to lead them in an activity. We are planning to go back to this school this year to work with them on a science experiment!
