American Pharmacists Association Fall 2025
American Pharmacists Association Fall 2025
Who we are:
The American Pharmacists Association is the largest professional pharmacy organization in the United States. This organization aims to advance the profession of pharmacy and improve patient care to ensure better health outcomes. At Duquesne University, we empower student pharmacists to be leaders in advocacy and education in healthcare. Our chapter provides opportunities for leadership positions and networking through our national conferences. Our six patient care committees, including Operation Diabetes, Heart, Reproductive Health, Immunization, OTC Literacy, and Substance Use Disorder promote public health by organizing health initiatives and patient outreach events. Our main event for the year is the Annual Health and Wellness Fair that is held in Downtown Pittsburgh that offers vaccinations, screenings, and educational booths to promote healthy lifestyles and encourage individuals to take control of their health. APhA-ASP is able to bridge the gap between our classroom learning to real-world applications.
Why we need your help!
Every year, APhA-ASP holds a national conference to bring together pharmacists, student pharmacists, and other professionals from across the country. This multi-day event offers educational sessions, leadership workshops, and networking opportunities that student pharmacists can utilize to strengthen their skills and bring back ideas to our campus chapter. This is an important opportunity for students to be able to attend because it allows us to learn more about how the role of a pharmacist is evolving in the world, as well as being able to speak to employers to help shape our future career goals. This event can be a financial burden for some, especially this year considering it is in Los Angeles, California. Students would be required to purchase registration, as well as hotels and flights.
This is not a simple task for many of us due to being full time college students. These donations will support students and allow them to have access to this valuable experience and networking opportunity that can help shape their future. They will prevent passionate students from dealing with any financial barriers that may keep them from participating and representing our local chapter.
Our favorite tradition in APhA-ASP is offering health education to the community of Downtown Pittsburgh. This event is completely through volunteering, and we offer vaccinations, blood pressure screenings, Narcan distribution and training, and education on many other health topics. Our students can provide these opportunities to those who may not regularly see their healthcare provider or have access to these essential resources. We are able to foster a strong connection between the community and our university while empowering our students to make a difference in the health of those around us and our future patients.
