Sigma Iota Rho Fall 2025
Sigma Iota Rho Fall 2025
Sigma Iota Rho is a national honor society for International Studies. Founded in 2014 at Duquesne University, this chapter's mission is grounded in promoting awareness and reward for students and future professionals in international relations. The organization works to foster an environment to achieve academic excellence and encourage students in areas of leadership and professional development. Sigma Iota Rho encourages students to think critically about real world global issues and drives students to contribute meaningful work.
What are we fundraising for?
Donations to Sigma Iota Rho will help to enrich the current and future members’ experiences to help with sustainability of events. All donations aid students in professional development opportunities as well as bringing in guest speaker events revolving around the chapter’s global security mission. Hosting monthly events will help in maintaining student engagement and enable students to apply in-class topics to real-world events. Donations may also go towards helping our chapter with attending the annual Sigma Iota Rho Spring conference where selected students are chosen to present their work. Our goal is to leave a lasting impression on students that promote strong academic achievements and a commitment to service, all of which align with Duquesne University’s mission.
Sigma Iota Rho enhances student life at Duquesne by cultivating a community for students passionate about global affairs and security. We are also passionate about representing the multicultural background of not only the International Relations Department, but Duquesne University as a whole. We aim to create an inclusive space where students from all majors can engage with global topics through interactive activities such as international trivia nights and cultural food events that promote learning, dialogue, and connection.
Sigma Iota Rho recently had its first event for the year which was a trivia game night with catered Middle Eastern food. The environment was filled with engaged students laughing and working together. Whether it was naming different countries or guessing countries' flags, the community engagement was strong and was filled with students helping one another. Not only were students learning at this event, but the event sparked meaningful conversations and helped students build new connections with others in International Relations and across a variety of other majors.
