Model United Nations Fall 2025
Model United Nations Fall 2025
Who we are
Duquesne Model United Nations is all about educating and understanding how exactly how nations engage in diplomacy on the widest stage there is. The United Nations has been a staple of international diplomacy for over 75 years, with it being, at times, the only way for opposing countries to communicate. Learning from the very top how to be diplomatic, being aware of other’s problems, and how to communicate with empathy are powerful lessons for everyone, on and off the campus.
Outside learning how exactly the UN and its interlinked committees work, Model United Nations also gives those involved a better perspective on the workings of the international world. Those involved see how exactly other countries work, alone and together, understand the struggles they face, and how our own home countries are involved in all this.
Why are we fundraising?
The money donated will directly be made to support more of our club members to be sent to international Model UN events, as well as hosting our own Model UN for local high schools. For our international conference this year, we landed on heading to New York’s NYUMUN conference taking place April 9th-11th.
Each student takes ~$500 to send to the conference to cover everything beyond knick-knacks and food; although we still do plan to set aside some money to send us all to a dinner sometime during the trip. The event is exhaustive, often times the delegates whole day would be spent in these conferences, packed with enriching fun of course; yet something to keep in mind is that this is the height for many young Model UN delegates for a reason.
A majority of our $1,000 goal will be invested into sending our delegates to NYUMUN (and more broadly enjoy New York), however a portion of the money will also be made to invest into our locally held Model UN event. Made for for the high school level, DUQMUN, as it’s known, is a completely free event we host for the local area (unlike certain neighbor’s of ours own held events). Our own members host the committees, providing an uncommon opportunity to most Model UN delegates to host instead of attend.
We put a spotlight on the benefits of being a diplomat in your every day life, aswell as providing a wider perspective on the issues facing the world stage. In a student’s day-to-day, our Model UN organization would provide excellent resources and opportunities to train oneself in the art of communication and debate. Nowadays, it can be hard for certain folk to socialize, much less tread through troubling social situations, but as conflict is something Model UN delegates will always be dealing with, they will be more prepared to calm everyone down.
On a more broad scale, our organization has always been a voice of support for learning about the struggles of others, and knowing how exactly you can help, if at all. It is another lesson being a delegate provides; how to really empathize with the other person, and understand where their issues are.
When we went to Toronto, a lot of us had to be split up to different committees, meaning we were effectively separated from one another for most of the day. We had to meet and interact with entirely new people to us in a place many of us never been to before, and yet by the end of the very first day, each of us had our own special story about how awesome it was interacting with these new friends of ours.
It was a good way to realize the power of unity these conferences have. People are flown in from literally every corner of the world for these events, and we all get to meet and talk with these people in a way very few could. There is a sense of baseline respect with one another that balances out the understated competitive nature of what we are all there to do, resulting in a sense of always doing the best possible work you can in these committees, cause you know for a fact the people around you are doing the same thing.
Stay Connected!
Become our friends! That’s really it! There is no reason better to come back and interact with the organization as an alumni than just simply wanting to. We love hosting any returning alumni for any topic they wish to speak to our new members about, or just wanting to hang out with us again.
Outside of that, our social media is perfect for keeping in touch with all things Model UN here at Duquesne! Our Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/duquesnemun/) is updated frequently!
