Flute Choir

Under the direction of Dan Parasky, The Duquesne University Flute Choir is currently a 14 member chamber group that meets once a week and performs original compositions and arrangements across a variety of musical styles. We welcome flutists from any degree program and feature the standard C flute as well as other instruments from the flute family including the piccolo, alto flute, bass flute, and contrabass flute. In addition to performing one themed concert a semester, we have also hosted master classes and collaborated with other flute groups in the Greater Pittsburgh Area. We have also performed at two National Flute Conventions (2022 – Chicago, IL, and 2023 – Phoenix, AZ), the 2023 Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention and the 2024 international Low Flutes Festival in Washington, DC.

Being a member of the Flute Choir allows musicians the opportunity to broaden their musical abilities. Through attending conferences, the members have the opportunity to perform for other flute players in the country and world. Not only is it an educational and professional experience, but members also can broaden their networks by meeting a diverse array of musicians. Members also attend lectures, workshops, masterclasses, and performances to enhance their musical capabilities. Besides attending conventions, Flute Choir members also can collaborate with other flute players in the Pittsburgh area through festivals at local colleges, collaborating with local flute choirs, and performing concerts. By being a member, music and non-music majors are offered the opportunity to continue to develop their passion of music and grow as a musician.

Why we need your help!

The Duquesne University Flute Choir is applying to upcoming conventions/conferences with the National Flute Association, Flute Society of Washington D.C. and/or Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (P.M.E.A.). Your donations will help members attend by offsetting convention fees, travel expenses, and room and board. To make this invaluable opportunity accessible to all our members, we are launching this crowdfunding campaign. Your generosity would help ensure that our members can attend and enjoy a convention experience.
