Duquesne University Strong Women, Strong Girls 2016 Crowdfunding Campaign Launched

April 01, 2016

Hi, everyone –

We have exciting news from the Duquesne University Strong Women, Strong Girls (SWSG) Chapter – we launched our 2016 crowdfunding campaign today!

Our goal is to raise $2,000 to help bring the girls we mentor to Duquesne University for an educational fieldtrip on Saturday, April 23. The fieldtrip – our favorite SWSG event of the year – will give our mentees in grades 3-5 the opportunity to spend quality time with us at Duquesne. These girls are from underserved Pittsburgh communities and will likely be stepping onto a college campus for the first time. This will allow them to see what college is like, expose them to what higher education has to offer and help them realize that college is something that could be part of their future.

As a supporter of last year’s crowdfunding campaign – we would greatly appreciate your support again this year by making a donation, spreading the word on social media and/or by forwarding this e-mail to family and friends who may be interested in supporting our efforts. Even a donation of $10 would help make a difference.

Watch a video about the campaign, donate and learn more at www.spirit.duq.edu/swsg16.

Thank you again for your past support and have a wonderful weekend!

Thank you!

March 17, 2015

Thank you all so much for making the first week of our campaign a success. We are over halfway to our goal!

This week, our mentees will learn about Lauran O’Brien, a Pittsburgh native who created several fundraising projects to help African orphans attend school.

After discovering how difficult it can be for some children to attend school in Africa, Lauren began selling candy bars for one dollar. Before long, she found herself with over $1,000, and proceeded to organize more fundraising events by reaching out to different organizations. She received over $32,000 in just under three years, and subsequently started her own nonprofit organization, Pauline Juliet. Today, Lauren’s organization sponsors eight girls to go to school and graduate college.

Laura’s story inspires the girls to find a cause to support, and teaches them how much one individual can make a difference.

Please share our page with your family and friends and help us achieve our goal!

Stretch Goal

March 23, 2015

Hello everyone,

We are excited to announce that in just 13 days, Duquesne’s Chapter of Strong Women, Strong Girls reached our initial goal of $2,500 and this is all thanks to YOU! We are so thankful to everyone who has checked out our page and made a donation.

That being said, WE ARE RAISING THE BAR! With 16 days left in our campaign, we have decided to stretch our goal to $3,000! We know that with your help we can do it. Please help us spread the word and share this page with people you think would be interested in our project. All donations will go directly to the implementation of our programming and to our girls.

Thank you for your support… Happy Spring!

Sincerely,

The Duquesne Strong Women, Strong Girls Mentors

New Goal for Field Trip!

March 29, 2015

Good morning,

We cannot thank all of you enough for your contributions to our online campaign so far! We are once again stretching our goal… this time to $3,500. With 10 days left, we know that with your help, we can reach this goal!

With $3,500, the Duquesne Chapter will be hosting a field trip for the 275 girls that we are mentoring this semester. In April, we will pay for buses to bring all of our girls to campus and spend a Saturday with us. By introducing the girls to all a college campus has to offer, we hope to inspire them and excite them about continuing their education.

Different student organizations on campus such as the forensics club and the music school will be working with the girls and different sports teams will be getting the girls active in our gym. We will also be paying for our girls to eat lunch with us in our very own dining hall. In addition to rotating between stations of organizations, we will also have the girls decorating hats to represent the schools they go to.

We are SO EXCITED about the opportunity this campaign is giving our girls. This field trip will be a great way for our chapter to close out a successful year of mentoring.

Thank you again for your support,

Duquesne University Strong Women, Strong Girls Mentors
