National Community Pharmacist Association Spring 2024

Duquesne’s NCPA Student Chapter is a student ran pharmacy organization that focuses on learning about entrepreneurial endeavors in the field of pharmacy, as well as support independent pharmacies in the Pittsburgh area. We give chapter members the opportunity to explore various paths within community practice, as well as teach them the skills that may help day open their own pharmacy. Community pharmacists are on the front lines daily as the most accessible health professional for patients to go and ask questions about their medications. Our organization empowers members to become the best community pharmacist they can be.

We are participating in crowdfunding this spring to help raise funds to send chapter members to NCPA’s Annual Conference this October 2024 in Columbus, Ohio. This conference provides students the opportunity to network with independent community pharmacists and owners from across the United States. Our president, Isabella Termini, had the opportunity to attend this conference. Here are a few remarks about her experience:

“ I was the first representative to attend the conference in over 5 years due to lack of funding for our members.  At the conference, I was able to network with countless pharmacists and student pharmacists from around the country, attend lectures and presentations on current pharmacy topics, and attend general business meeting sessions that focused on advances in community pharmacy.  My favorite part about attending the conference was networking.  I met student pharmacists from across the country, including Wyoming, Tennessee, and Washington.  It gave me an appreciation for how other states implement pharmacists into their healthcare systems and how important pharmacists can be.  My favorite presentation I attended was about the newest RSV vaccine.  I was able to take that information I learned from the presentation and help make recommendations to patients in my community who qualify for the vaccine.  Finally, the general business sessions made me excited for the profession of pharmacy because NCPA is fighting back against wrongful reimbursement fees from PBMs.  Because I was able to attend the conference, I was able to come back to my local chapter and provide so much valuable information about NCPA and the profession of pharmacy.  Next year, the conference is in Columbus, OH.  Many of our members do not have access to funding to attend these conferences.  It is my belief that with your support of our NCPA student chapter that our members can learn more about the profession and get excited about becoming future pharmacists.  I have certainly benefitted from attending, and I know our members will too for next year.”

We are asking you to consider donating to our NCPA student chapter so we can provide funding to our members to go this upcoming October! This conference is a great opportunity to network with other pharmacists in the field and to learn more about future careers in community pharmacies. Giving our members the opportunity to learn more about entrepreneurship in pharmacy and working within the community allows our members to gain a greater appreciation for the profession of pharmacy. Any donation will be greatly appreciated and disbursed directly to our members attending the conference. We appreciate all your help and support!
