2024 Mission Trip: Detroit, MI & Dayton, OH
Who?
We are a group of six Duquesne students looking to learn and live out the Spiritan tradition of serving with others and walking with those on the margins.
What?
Our group is participating in a Spiritan Mission Experience in Detroit, MI and Dayton, OH. We will be meeting members of the local communities, learning about the issues they face, and assisting them in various ways.
When?
We will be taking our trip over Spring Break. We will leave Saturday, March 2nd and spend the first few days in Detroit. Then we will head down to Dayton for the remainder of week, and return to Pittsburgh March 9th.
Where?
In Detroit, we will work with Old St. Mary’s Catholic Church in the Downtown area, whose urban location give them a unique congregation of business professionals, government employees, and tourists. Afterwards, we will work with St. Benedict the Moor school and parish, a Black Catholic community in West Dayton, where we will serve the young students and help with parish activities like the fish fry.
How You Can Help
St. Benedict the Moor provides its students with a free Catholic education as an alternative to the substandard local public schools. To do so, the school operates on a tight budget, often having to cut recreational supplies like games and crafts. Your gracious donations will be used to buy gym games, toys, and other fun materials for the students.
