Who We Are
Student Nurses’ Association is an organization for undergraduate nursing students here at Duquesne. This organization provides educational resources and is a great way for nursing students to network and gain leadership skills. Members stay involved through chapter meetings, fundraising, social, and service opportunities. SNA allows for not only involvement within Duquesne or Pennsylvania, but even on the national level! We keep engaged in the current healthcare system on the pre-professional level by attending conferences and legislative programs. Many of these workshops and conferences aim to promote the involvement and understanding of our healthcare system. With the wide variety of opportunities and resources available students have the chance to network with students from down the hall they have never met here at Duquesne to the whole other part of the nation
What Happens at Conferences?
Through SNA at Duquesne students are provided the opportunity to attend two different workshops, along with the Student Nurses’ Association of Pennsylvania state conference and the National Student Nurses’ Association national conference. All of these events give students the chance to be exposed to different aspects of nursing, but most importantly a real-life simulation. There are two workshops that take place each year: Capitol Hill: Step by Step and LEAD. Capitol Hill is a legislative workshop which ensures the understanding of the relationship between the political process and healthcare, as well as how students can influence change through advocacy and writing resolutions. The LEAD workshop is designed to develop nursing students across the state into leaders within nursing. The state conference and national conference both revolve around networking and advocacy through small workshops and resolutions. Resolutions are written by schools throughout the state and nation to promote a change in an area student most see fit. Duquesne has continuously finalized a resolution to do our part to promote change and bring a voice to patients. During these conferences' hospitals, employers, schools, and many other nursing resources gather to speak to students during the expo. This gives our nursing students the option to network across the nation for job prospecting!
Your donation will help us to give back to the organization, our students. With this money we can plan events with our local chapter, as well as allow our students to attend and receive the amazing opportunity both workshops and conventions provide. These expenses include airfare, hotels, and convention fees.
