Multicultural STEM Group - Spring 2023

Who we are:

The BSNES Multicultural STEM Group (MSG) is a professional and social group on campus that promotes career development, diversity, and inclusion within the field of STEM. The organization provides a network for students and professionals interested in STEM-related careers, internships, research, and community engagement and service, while in accordance with the Duquesne University Mission.

Why we are fundraising:

We are fundraising to support our members to attend and present at national research conferences. Donations will be used for travel expenses and conference registration fees.

Call to action/ask for support:

There are numerous conferences each year that give undergraduate researchers the opportunity to present their work to researchers within their field. These Supporting our members’ outstanding accomplishments and opportunities will greatly impact their undergraduate experience. At these events, members may attend poster presentations and guest lectures from principal investiagators throughout the nation. These once in a lifetime experiences also provide great networking opportunities which are beneficial for career development.

After COVID-19, we have distributed conference applications and information so our members can present their undergraduate research. In November of 2022, two of our members (Austin Summers and Jessica Wellman) presented their undergraduate research at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritiezed Students (ABRCMS) in Anaheim, CA. We hope to support and highlight members at conferences in the future, such as the National Conference of Undergraduate Research (NCUR) 2023. Many members will be attending this conference in Eau Claire, WI from April 13-15th.

Additional ways to help:

All gifts are extremely appreciated so we can support the achievements and excellence of our members! We also appreciate if you can spread the word of our campaign to others who may be interested in helping members attend research conferences and celebrate their accomplishments.

Our Instagram, @duq_msg, will be used to spread the word about our campaign.
