Mission Trip: Arlington/Baltimore 2023

Who are we? 

Hello! We are a group of strong women and strong girls who will be going to Arlington and Baltimore during our 2023 Spring Break! We are five Duquesne University students and a Spiritan Campus Minister who look forward to continuing the work done by previous Spiritan Mission Experiences (SMEs) over the past 9 years. We will support parish ministries in any way we can while learning about the neighborhoods and community members. This opportunity will allow each of us to grow our faith and learn about each community we touch. 

Why are we fundraising? 

• We are fundraising to be able to serve both the Baltimore and Arlington communities where we will be visiting and serving over the course of 10 days.
• In Baltimore, MD, we will work with St. Edward’s Parish, there we will assist with the maintenance and upkeep of their parish community center. The majority of the community interaction is done by one individual volunteer who is dedicated to showing the world the love of God. There are many tasks that need to be done at this parish including touching up previous paint jobs, painting the halls, retiling the restrooms, and inspecting the furniture to make the repairs that are needed. During our trip, we will also be assisting in food distribution to many of the elderly and low-income individuals within the area.
• In Arlington, VA we will serve at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, a historically African American parish with an amazing community that is very involved. There we will assist some of their ministries including the Matthew 25 store, which distributes donated clothing to those in need at no cost! We will also help with the Parish’s food pantry and will distribute food to the homeless. Last year, we helped decorate the center for their youth ministry and we were able to learn about all their community outreach work!

How can you help? 

All the money we are raising is going to help these parishes and help us grow closer to these communities in need.
