Sigma Tau Delta

Who we are

Sigma Tau Delta is the international collegiate honors society for students of English and those who have a deep interest in the study of language and literature. Duquesne University’s chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, Pi Delta, not only confers distinction and recognition on those students who have excelled in the discipline, but it also fosters a community of scholars, readers, learners, and artists who are committed to using their knowledge, skills, and talent to serve and empower the many communities to which they belong.

For the 2022-2023 academic year at Duquesne, Sigma Tau Delta has two service projects. The first is an exciting pen-pal project with Pittsburgh Public Schools high school seniors who are international and/or English-language learners. Chapter members will exchange letters with these high school students that are hand-written and sent via regular “snail mail.” The next project is a continuation of our regular spring semester partnership with Duquesne’s ESL/ELL program to host "conversation hour" for international and/or English-language learners and international students on campus.

The impact of your gift

Your generosity to our crowdfunding campaign will enable Sigma Tau Delta members to offset a number of costs that they will have this academic year. There are two events that will benefit from your gifts.

  • Sending members from our Pi Delta chapter to the Sigma Tau Delta International Convention in Denver, CO (Sheraton Denver Downtown) from March 29 to April 1. This convention will present students with several expenses, including hotel accommodations, flights, and conference registration. Last year, one of our presenters, alumna Vanessa Llewellyn won first prize in her category for her scholarly paper, “Models of Social Productivity in A Gest of Robyn Hode.” This is quite remarkable, given how large the convention is and how many other colleges and universities are represented. Her award speaks to the dedication and energy of our chapter, Pi Delta, and how well it represents Duquesne.
  • Planning and hosting our April 2023 Undergraduate Showcase Panel on campus that will showcase undergraduate poetry, fiction, and scholarly research
