Mission Trip: Dominican Republic 2022

Who are we?

We are a group of 10 Duquesne University students returning to San Juan de la Maguana in the Dominican Republic for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. This trip is sponsored by Spiritan Campus Ministry to continue building the relationship started in 2008 with Our Lady of Hope Parish.

Where are we going?

This August, we will travel to San Juan de la Maguana in the Dominican Republic, where we will be working with Our Lady of Hope Parish (Nuestra Senora de la Esperanza). The parish is located just north of San Juan, in barrio Villa Liberación.

What are we doing?

We will be working together with the parish youth group to facilitate a day camp for children ages 6-10 focused on structured play and mentorship. Additionally, funds raised will be used to assist in medical supplies and home repair expenses for the elderly and infirm of the area. While we are there, we will be able to visit with recipients of the funding and spend free time with the youth group.

In addition to running the camp, we will spend time with members of the community through home visits, tours of the area, and free time spent with the teens.

How can your donation help?

In addition to this trip enriching our educational experience as Duquesne University students, funds raised will be used to help provide the community with:

  • Camp supplies
  • Medical supplies for the elderly and infirm
  • New roofing/home repair

Please donate today and help spread the word on social media! Thank you!

$10

Even $10 Makes A Difference!

Even a donation of $10 will make a difference and help us reach our goal!

$25

Camp Supplies

A $25 donation could allow us to buy arts and craft supplies, paint, sports equipment, books and anything else needed to facilitate a camp full of fun for the children who attend.

$50

Medical Supplies

A $50 donation could allow us to purchase a variety of medical supplies which will be donated to the elderly, infirm and widowed. These populations do not typically have the means or access to medicines or medical supplies that are needed.

$100

Roof Replacement

There are several older plywood/shingle roofs in the barrio where we work that are hitting their 15 year limit and need to be replaced. A more permanent fix is to replace them with a new zinc roof. The cost for an entire roof is $300.
