Alpha Sigma Tau at Duquesne University

Joining a sorority enters you into a sisterhood of women who are there to support you in all your endeavors, encourage you to be your best self, and be a part of all your favorite collegiate memories. More importantly, joining a sisterhood means joining a group of women who desire to be part of something bigger than themselves, and who wish to give back to the people around them. 

The sisters of Alpha Sigma Tau (AST) hold their philanthropies near and dear to their heart and wholeheartedly love every moment of supporting them. Another major aspect of our philanthropic mission is to support other organizations at their philanthropy events as well. Having the means to send our sisters to other events on campus allows us to create a community connection on campus and reciprocate the support that those organizations bring to our events. Attendance to these events allows us to simultaneously fundraise for charities that are important to us, make connections with students on campus, and spend time with our sisters. Having the means to attend these events is greatly appreciated by our sisterhood as we see first-hand the impact that we are making by dedicating ourselves to these causes.

Why We Are Crowdfunding

A successful crowdfunding campaign will help to enhance our efforts to support the Miss Duquesne Pageant we host for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Women’s Wellness Initiative. Both have had such an incredible impact on our sisterhood!

Miss Duquesne Pageant for Make-A-Wish

The sisters of AST hold a Miss Duquesne Pageant to raise awareness for children diagnosed with critical illnesses. All proceeds directly benefit the Pittsburgh Make-A-Wish Foundation and help to make a child’s wish come true! The pageant focuses on celebrating Duquesne women from various organizations on campus, while simultaneously raising money to grant wishes to local Make-A-Wish children. During this pageant, our contestants represent their Duquesne organizations through their talents, question answering skills, and more. As a result, we have been able to grant so many wishes over the years, including trips to Disneyland and Rome to meet the Pope, and some of our newest wishes include a jungle gym and a shopping spree! 

As an extension of this initiative, we hosted Waffles for Wishes on campus to raise more money for the foundation and recently made tie-blankets for Project Linus to donate to kids in local hospitals!

Your donation to our crowdfunding campaign can help offset the costs for us to host this important event on November 12, 2022.

Women’s Wellness Initiative

The Women’s Wellness Initiative is another philanthropy we are very passionate about. Our goal is to make sure that woman can be the best versions of themselves. We strive to provide resources and support to the woman at the women’s shelter. We collect money to donate as well as buy gift cards and supplies for the women. In years past, we have been able to visit the shelter and have events with the women including hosting dinners and birthday parties. Due to COVID we have not been able to go but we are still getting involved as much as we can. A few months ago, we made hygiene kits for the women and gift packages. Our goal is to continue to raise money to help women who face struggles get back on their feet. As a group of sisters, supporting women allows us to grow closer, and shows us the importance of lifting each other up.
