Spiritan Campus Ministry Mission Experiences
Welcome to the crowdfunding page for our Duquesne University Spiritan Campus Ministry Mission Experiences. Each year, over 60 students embark on a service trip to one of the following locations:
Students give a week of their time during their Spring Break to serve one of these communities with which Duquesne has long-standing relationships. We have had relationships with some of these communities for over 30 years. While we go on these trips primarily to serve, what we receive is beyond price. We learn about a new community, we create relationships with others in our group and in the communities we serve and we learn lessons that will last us a lifetime.
The Impact of Mission Experiences
Each year, students are offered an opportunity to serve at one of our five partner communities.
In the Dominican Republic, they are given the opportunity to partner with teens to plan and run a day camp for children in the orphanage.
In Immokalee, students learn about the plight of migrant farmworkers, spend time serving at the Immokalee Habitat for Humanity, and serve meals to those who are hungry at Guadalupe Social Service.
In Arlington/Baltimore and Chicago/Dayton, students see the disparity between resources provided in some towns and Spiritan Catholic Churches compared to others. In Baltimore, they help with renovations and repairs at St. Edward’s Parish, and in Chicago/Dayton, the students serve at soup kitchens and work on renovations at St. Benedict the Moor Parish.
In Mullens, students learn about this coal mining town and help with repairs and construction projects at the Mullens Opportunity Center.
Why We Are Crowdfunding
Due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, the students were unable to physically serve in our five communities this spring. However, it is with great hope that we can continue to raise funds to strengthen this important Duquesne tradition. Your donations will help fund the anticipated 2022 Spiritan Mission Experiences when restrictions are lifted. Your support will help generate an even greater impact in our partner communities and will allow our students to have a tremendous experience serving our partner communities.
