Duquesne University Students in Athletic Training

Who are we?

Duquesne University Students in Athletic Training (DUSAT) is an organization based on the goal of advancing knowledge, understanding and application of athletic training practices both internally and externally to the Duquesne University community. Our organization:

•  works to provide additional educational opportunities for our students, as well as organize and manage additional resources to allow students to attend professional functions
• creates a relaxed atmosphere for a free exchange of ideas and information between peers and mentors
• engages in various service activities to support those in need locally, nationally, and internationally

Why are we crowdfunding?

The goal of our crowdfunding campaign is to raise money to help our members afford to pay national membership dues and attend conventions. 

Why become national members?

National membership dues include induction into the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA), regional athletic training associations and state athletic training societies. Being involved in these different organizations can open up various scholarships, internships, and other opportunities for our students. However, the cost associated with these membership dues can range from $60 to $125 per student depending on their home state, which may not be manageable for students. Our goal is to raise money to be able to assist our members in paying these dues so that they can take advantage of these opportunities. 

Why attend conventions? 

National, regional, and state conventions are a great way for students to continue to learn more within athletic training outside of the classroom. Conventions allow our students to be introduced to current research surrounding athletic training. Students can also be introduced to new and emerging topics. They are also an amazing opportunity for students to network within the athletic training community and connect with Duquesne alumni. Many Duquesne athletic training students earn the opportunity to present their research at multiple levels of conventions throughout their time at Duquesne. 

However, there are a number of costs associated with attending these conventions and many students struggle to manage these costs on their own. While all of our conventions for this year have been moved to a virtual platform due to COVID-19, our goal is to start building funds to help send students to future conventions.
