Announcing our stretch goal: $10,000

Thanks to your overwhelming support we hit our initial project goal of $5,000 in just four days! With nearly a full month remaining in the campaign, you can still help by spreading the word and sharing with friends, family and alumni. We know that $10,000 is an ambitious new benchmark, but with your help we believe we can do it and make this our most successful event yet!

Announcing this stretch goal is an exciting moment for our team and achieving it will ensure that we raise enough to outfit players with both sets of new uniforms this season and cut costs for our athletes!

What are we raising money for?

• We have set a goal of raising $5,000. Achieving that goal would enable us to buy one set of new uniforms for the upcoming season. The uniform sets include a jersey, matching socks, and pants shell. Since we are a student-funded organization, this is a cost that would typically fall to our players in addition to all other in-season costs. If the funds are not acquired, the team will not have the opportunity to partake in the rebranding along with the other Duquesne University athletic programs. Raising additional funds would mean that we could potentially purchase both sets of uniforms for this year, rather than spreading out the cost over multiple seasons.

Why us?

• As members of the Duquesne Hockey team, we have always prided ourselves both for our on ice performance, as well as the way we carry ourselves on campus and within the community. Through the years we have strived to build and maintain outstanding and recognizable relationships with other student organizations and departments at the University. As a team we have full awareness that during these unprecedented times many people have found themselves facing financial struggles, including members of our program. Despite our on and off ice successes, our team does not receive any financial support from the University, and is funded completely from player dues, with support from alumni. Some of our most prominent sources of additional funding are campaigns such as this one. Donating helps to lower our players costs for the season, while enabling us to match the look and feel of the teams in the Athletic Department. In addition, by having uniforms that coincide with Duquesne’s recent rebranding we will be able to best represent our University while competing nationally.

What is Duquesne Hockey?

• We are a fully student-funded and student run organization with a successful history built around core values that not only represent our team culture, but prepare everyone involved in our organization to succeed in their life after Duquesne. Our organization gives opportunity for advancement to all students affiliated with our team, players and managers alike. Members of our hockey alumni have played professionally in Europe, and both player and manager alumni have represented the University with jobs and internships for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Steelers, Pirates and more. In addition to the sports world, our alumni have accomplished personal success in a number of different career paths all across the United States and even Canada.
• Unique to our team is that while we are classified as a “club” sport within the University, we have a dedicated coaching staff, recruit players from around the world, and compete at the national level with major schools such as the University of Alabama, West Virginia University, Liberty University, the University of Pittsburgh, and more. Our team is made up of experienced players from high school, prep hockey and juniors, and includes transfers from NCAA D3 programs. While the label of club sport might be had with Duquesne ACHA Hockey, the effort and work that the team puts in is far from images of a recreational team. We are the closest you can get to being a varsity sport without any of the luxuries that school-funded teams get.

What do I get for donating?

• For anyone that donates to our campaign you will receive a thank you from the team and a virtually autographed team photo in the new uniforms! Contributing to our campaign makes YOU just as much a part of our team as it does the players. We are all in this together!
