Please support the students of the Equestrian Team!

Who are we?

The Duquesne University Equestrian Team (DUET), an officially recognized Club Sport at Duquesne University, provides the opportunity for students to get involved in recreational and competitive riding.

As a team of 19 strong, we practice weekly during a normal year, all while competing on various weekends throughout the fall and spring semesters. We are located in the Zone 2 Region 5 sector of Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA), where we compete against other universities, such as the University of Pittsburgh, West Virginia University, and Slippery Rock University. Our coach Linda Stevens, and our host barn Fox Hollow Stables, are located in Wampum, PA, just north of the city. Each team member practices at least once per week to build, and learn their skills both as a rider, and as a team member. We welcome all levels of riders!

We are a continuously growing team who are proud to represent this great University. DUET adds to our educational experience we receive at Duquesne because it allows us to:

  • Create friendships with other students who also share a love of riding
  • Compete at shows with other collegiate-level riders
  • Escape the hectic atmosphere of academic studies by participating in this fun and exciting sport
  • Give those who have not previously ridden the opportunity to learn about and experience riding

Why is it important and where will my donation go?

Your donation to our team goes a very long way. On top of an already expensive sport, our riders must cover the cost of the following:

  • Personal showing and riding gear
  • Lesson fees at Fox Hollows
  • Coaching fees for every show
  • Transportation to shows and lessons
  • Each additional IHSA class past the one we cover

This semester, we are unable to practice as a team due to COVID. Even though we are not regularly competing and practicing, your donation is more important than ever. Without a regular season, the normal cash inflow and outflow does not occur. Your donation is crucial to providing us with the funds necessary to see a spring semester show season!

Overall, each of these fees can cost an arm and a leg. On average, each individual rider will spend $1,500 to be on the team from a combination of the above. As college age students without full time jobs, every penny goes a long way.

Your donation will help our riders continue to do what they love, without breaking the bank. Each donation helps lessen the burden on each rider, and provide them with the materials needed to be successful in this field. Each giving level helps determine where your donation goes; we appreciate the support!

What is our goal?

Our ultimate goal is to raise $3,000 by the end of the crowdfunding month on November 16. This is on average the amount we will spend in a year to cover our riders showing expenses, and help ease the financial burden of the sport. A gift of any size will help make this happen, allow our riders to continue doing what they love, and keep us active.

How can I help?

Donate now: A gift of any size will help sponsor riders to continue participating in the sport they love. We ask that you please join us today in making a donation. Simply hit the “Give Now” button on this page, using the giving levels as a guide as to where the money can go.
