Who we are

Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an educational simulation and/or academic activity in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations and the United Nations.

At Duquesne, we meet every week in a unique way – Model UN is both a class and a club, allowing students to get either International Relations or Political Science credit while participating in the club. During club meetings, we discuss current events, partake in speaking exercises and learn how to diplomatically engage in debate. Outside of class, we attend conferences, which provide experiences which we would never be able to attain in the classroom. These experiences are great ways to practice public speaking and diplomacy.

Why we are crowdfunding

It costs around $300 to send one student to a Model United Nations conference. Our club has grown rapidly in the past two years, from less than five students to more than fifteen. We have won major awards at the last four conferences we have attended, but attending conferences with a delegation over three times the size costs far more than it did in 2017.

As a club, we pride ourselves on fully covering the costs of conference so that every student has a chance to participate, regardless of their financial situation. This is where we need your help! All funds would be used to send students to two conferences in 2020 and two every year moving forward - including transportation, registration, and lodging.
