Who We Are

The Beta Gamma chapter of Phi Delta Chi has been a large part of Duquesne’s student pharmacy organizations since our inception on January 16, 1963. The story of our chapter has been one of success. The award given to the best chapter of Phi Delta Chi is known as the Thurston Award, of which Beta Gamma has the most of any chapter at 13.

Our main philanthropy is St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Every year we donate to their cause as well as volunteer at their Pittsburgh Walk/Run event. Additionally, we have done community outreach on topics including men’s health, alcohol abuse, and smoking cessation.

We are currently working to host leadership development seminars for our fellow Duquesne students. Our brothers have a large impact on our community and school of pharmacy, which we continue to improve year after year.

Our Reason for Crowdfunding

We believe that attending conferences is an important part of our development as young pharmacists. They provide teachings to attendees that are often more specific to a student’s interest than what can be provided in the classroom. For example, a student can attend the American College of Clinical Pharmacy’s conference to hear topics about clinical practice that may be too narrow spectrum for the classroom. The benefits do not stop at clinical knowledge either. These conferences also foster networking and are excellent for learning how to establish professional relationships. There are also opportunities to meet brothers around the nation to share ideas with.

An issue that limits our brother’s from having the opportunity to attend these conferences is how expensive they can be. Not only do you have to pay for registration, but there is also travel and lodging to account for. As students, we do not have the means afford these conferences and thus, cannot take part in all of the benefits.

Therefore, the Beta Gamma chapter is initiating this crowdfunding campaign to begin a Conference Appropriation Fund. This fund will be available to brothers via application process that will be submitted to and assessed by the executive board. Funds can be used to help pay for room and board, travel, or registration to ANY conference that a brother wishes to attend such as Midyear, Phi Delta Chi National and Regional conferences, or any other professional organization’s conference.
