Who are we?
The Duquesne University Community Engagement Scholars is an academically-rooted, mission-driven program that provides students an opportunity for a structured, supervised community-based immersion in a non-profit organization, citizen action group, or philanthropic entity for 200 hours over the course of an entire academic year. Students spend approximately 7 hours a week with their partner agencies and an additional one hour a week in a Social Justice seminar class. The program allows for students to combine practical experiences in community engagement with rich discussions around the complex problems of injustice.
Why do we need your help?
Because this program requires students to put in a total of 200 hours per year, many participants need to cut back on work hours in order to make room for the program. Not all of our students are able to absorb this loss of income. Because of this, we give our participants small scholarships ($1,200 per year) in order to make it possible for them to learn and serve in communities in this unique way.
What will your donation to towards?
100% of the donations from this campaign will go toward scholarship funding for our Community Engagement Scholars to enable them to learn and serve with our community partners.
How can you help?
The support from alumni and friends will go a long way in enhancing this important program. Even a gift of $10 will help us reach our $1,200 goal, which will fund one scholar for a full year.
