Dominican Republic Mission Trip Recap

August 29, 2019

Dear Donors, Family and Friends,

Our group cannot thank you enough for your generous contributions and overwhelming support. It was such an exciting moment when we reached our crowdfunding campaign goal and even more thrilling that we went beyond it.

Our mission trip to San Juan de la Maguana last month was the trip of a lifetime. Each day we shared breakfast and began to prepare for the day ahead of us. Most days, that meant preparing for more than 80 kids and the day's crafts, sport activities, story time and dance time. Some of the highlights during the days of summer camp were when the kids made slime and tie-dyed camp t-shirts, or our group trip to the local pool with more than 60 kids, as well as simply spending time and sharing lunch and dinner with the teen team of Parroquia Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza.

Some of us were fortunate enough to meet some of the people in the community who benefited from your contributions. One young man, who is paralyzed from a motorcycle accident, has made considerable progress in part due to your donations. Another family benefited from being able to repair their roof to keep them dry when it would rain.

We are so grateful for having the opportunity to have spent time with, learn from and love the people of San Juan. We are especially grateful for Fr. Don and Jeuris, along with all of the teenagers at the Parish who ran the camp with us. The time spent in San Juan was an authentic exchange of humanity and something inexplicably mutual between the people we spent time with and our group from Duquesne. Our collaborative team of 20+ connected so quickly and gracefully. They gave us so much - an immediate opened-arm welcome, meals, laughs and many lessons of humility. The community was so joyful, always willing to share or offer a helping hand and always doing so with a smile. This is something that we all will remember to carry with us daily for the rest of our lives.

All of us are forever touched by our experience and the people who gave us so much - all of you and all of the beautiful people we love in San Juan.

So many blessings, thanks and gratitude,

$10

Every Donation Helps

Even a donation of $10 will make a difference and help us reach our goal!

$25

Camp Supplies

A $25 donation will allow us to buy arts and craft supplies, paint, sports equipment, books and anything else needed to facilitate a camp full of fun for the children who attend.

$50

Medical Supplies

A $50 donation will allow us to purchase a variety of medical supplies which will be donated to the elderly, infirm and widowed. These populations do not typically have the means or access to medicines or medical supplies that are needed.

$100

Zinc Roofs

There are several older plywood/shingle roofs in the barrio where we work that are hitting their 15 year limit and need to be replaced. A more permanent fix is to replace them with a new zinc roof. The cost for an entire roof is $300.
