New Crowdfunding Campaign Launched for Pure Thirst

October 04, 2017

As a donor to Duquesne University’s Pure Thirst crowdfunding campaign in 2015, we wanted to make you aware that we launched a new campaign for Pure Thirst last evening and we would love for your continued support. Gifts will be used to support our third trip to Olkokola, Tanzania where we will help the people of that community with their water crisis.

On the first day of the campaign we are already at 35% of our $3,000 goal, with $1,065 raised from 22 donors. THANK YOU if you have already donated!

Thank You for Making Our Pure Thirst Trip to Tanzania Possible!

September 09, 2016

Thanks to your generosity towards our successful crowdfunding campaign last October, four Duquesne University students in the Pure Thirst organization had the opportunity to travel to Okakola, Tanzania from July 15 to August 7.

Your donation allowed us to:

  • Hike the mountain/hillside where Okakola’s water source flows, which is where the improvement of piping begins.

  • Discuss this with contractors and put Global Grant Rotarians in contact with reliable community members.

  • Install two hand washing stations for a local school in the area.

  • Make progress with the installation of five blocks of latrines.

  • Teach children at two primary schools in Okakola about personal hygiene, water-borne diseases and the importance of washing your hands (pictured).

  • Meet many of the community members and form relationships with them.

  • Research and complete a successful method for removing fluoride from water. We are now in the process of researching an easier and affordable way to reproduce this in the community.

To learn more about our trip and stay informed of our efforts, make sure to connect with us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/apurethirst) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/purethirst)!

Thank you again for your support and for making our educational experience at Duquesne University even more enriching.

An Update from the Pure Thirst Project Coordinators to Our Donors

March 14, 2016

Hello, everyone!

It's hard to believe that we're months away from our journey to Tanzania where we will work together with the community of Okakola and implement our project!

Five coordinators – Melanie Bizzarro, Olivia Erickson, Emily Hamel, Catherine Hull and Lydia Presper – will travel to Tanzania from mid-July into early August to complete the project.

As we continue on our path to Tanzania, all project coordinators are diligently working on their different areas of research and in a few weeks we will have completed and submitted the Rotary Global Grant application, as well.

Thank you all again for making this possible. We greatly appreciate your endless support and encouragement throughout our journey!

Happy Thanksgiving from Pure Thirst!

November 25, 2015

Hello everyone!

As Thanksgiving approaches, we wanted to take time and reflect on how grateful we are for your support and generosity towards our crowdfunding project earlier this year. Thanks to you, we exceeded our goal and are in the planning stages for our trip to Okakola, Tanzania. We will provide updates in the coming months so that you can see your donation in action.

We wish you a wonderful and warm Thanksgiving!
