Honors College: August Wilson Birthday Celebration
Who are we?
We are Honors College students in Dr. Erik Garrett's "Honors Seminar: Social Justice" class where the goal is to bridge the gap between the community and the University by allowing students to gain a greater understanding for the people in neighborhoods that are quite different from where they grew up. As a part of the class we work to further the seven-year partnership between Duquesne University's Honors College and the Daisy Wilson Artist Community and the August Wilson House, mainly through the planning and executing of the traditional August Wilson Block Party in the Hill District.
Why are we Crowdfunding?
To help us directly engage and learn about the Hill District and the people who live there we are in charge of planning and executing activities for children during the Block Party. Our class, along with other Duquesne University student groups will set up tables around the event with varying activities geared towards keeping the children occupied and engaged.
We are crowdfunding to cover the costs of:
small prizes for children’s goody bags
transportation for the community via a loop bus
Additionally, our class wants to spread the word about this amazing event to the greater Pittsburgh community.
We ask that you please donate today to help the collaboration between Duquesne University students and the Daisy Wilson Artist Community and August Wilson House. Any donation will help in our effort to make this block party a success. You can also help by spreading the word about this campaign to others via social media, e-mail, and text.
