SGA Student Book Loan Program

What is the Student Book Loan Program?

Established in 2015, the Duquesne University Student Government Association’s (SGA) Student Book Loan Program is a student-driven initiative in which the SGA purchases textbooks that can then be borrowed for free by all Duquesne University students! The books are for classes ranging from the sciences to business to University Core Curriculum (UCOR).

Mindful of students’ potential financial burden and the high cost of college textbooks, SGA created this program to help alleviate part of the rising cost of higher education.

This initiative exemplifies the Duquesne Mission of "serving God by serving students" by providing a service to all students throughout the Duquesne University community.

Why are we crowdfunding?

Donor support is needed so that we can update the current Student Book Loan Program inventory. We hope to add more UCOR textbooks, as well as identify other academic programs that can benefit from having their textbooks on reserve.

Once we have an expanded inventory, we plan to increase our marketing of the program so more students are aware of this alternative.

How do students access the books?

Students simply need to visit the Circulation Desk at Gumberg Library (located on the 4th floor) and request to utilize a specific book from the Book Loan Program collection.

They are able to use the textbook on a two-hour interval. While they are able to renew it for a long as they need, the textbooks are not allowed to leave the library. Students then return the textbook to the Circulation Desk whenever they are finished with it.

Students are able to utilize the Student Book Loan Program textbooks as often as they are available - during all hours that Gumberg Library is open.

Have students used the program?

Our current inventory has 42 books, which provide support for over 20 classes! They have been checked-out by student nearly 350 times!
