Due to overwhelming support from our alumni and friends, we exceeded our initial crowdfunding goal in less than a week! Our campaign does not end until March 5 so there is still time to donate and help spread the word about this project. We are announcing our stretch goal of $8,000 to help defray more of the costs for our student-athletes. This is already the most successful Duquesne University hosted crowdfunding campaign so let’s see how high we can go! Thank you all for your support!
The Team…
Duquesne Hockey is a club team that competes at the Division 1 level of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). Division 1 consists of 60 teams across the United States including the top hockey teams for large Universities such as Oklahoma, Syracuse, Delaware, Arizona, Illinois & Kent State. Locally, Duquesne competes in the CHMA against the University of Pittsburgh, Robert Morris University, West Virginia, John Carroll, Mercyhurst, Slippery Rock and Indiana University of PA.
Duquesne Hockey is a fully student funded organization. Many of the players work a job to be able to pay for hockey, which is time spent in addition to a full course load and the 12-18 hours per week that they dedicate to practice, games, off ice work outs and travel. The hockey team also works to be outstanding members of the Duquesne University and Pittsburgh community, from tutoring kids and giving lessons to local hockey players, to volunteer and charity work.
Nationals…
The regular season champion of each league receives an auto bid to the National Championship Tournament. The National Tournament consists of 20 teams, including 4 play in games, and then a 16 team single elimination format. This year, the Tournament is held as a part of a National Festival with the other four levels of ACHA hockey, in Columbus, Ohio. More information can be found at www.ACHAnationals.com.
Currently Duquesne is in first place in the CHMA with a record of 9-4 with one game remaining.
Duquesne last qualified for the National Tournament in 2009 when they finished 15th in the country.
Why we need donations…
We are a fully student funded organization. This means that every cost associated with the program is paid for with player dues, which for the current season were approximately $2,500 per player. Should we make Nationals, the cost to attend will be at least $8,000 and possibly more depending on how successful we are. The money we receive will go to pay for the costs associated including the bus, hotels, food and other expenses.
If we do not make Nationals this season, the money raised will go towards remaining expenses for this season, as well as future costs for the program. Many of those costs can be seen in the Donation Levels on this page, but they also include: Cost of Practice Ice, Cost of Game Ice, Other game fees including Referee’s and EMT’s, charter buses, hotels, meals for road trips, jerseys, apparel and equipment and more.
